The latest Dallas Morning News area Top 20 ranking have been released and Marcus is back in the charts at #16. Congratulations to Coach Erwin, his staff, and players.

Elsewhere in District 5A Southlake dropped from no. 7 to no. 13, Hebron moves up from no. 13 to no. 8, and FloMo slides down and barely hangs on, tied for last. Coppell dropped out of the rankings.

Although these rankings are nowhere near as important as the college BCS and AP polls are, it is still an honor to be recognized for accomplishments.

However, how can you be ranked #20 after getting beat by teams that are actually good? Someone at the DMN must be buddies with someone at the 1-3 in a challenging district, about to miss the playoffs, 'team across town'.

Rankings mean nothing. Did it do South Lake any good to be ranked high in the state when they played Coppell? Was TT afraid of Texas last weekend? Was Texas afraid of OU a few weeks ago? The game still is played no matter what number you are and the highest rank doesn't gaurantee a win. BCS is only important because there is bowl money on the line.

I disagree, my friend. As part of a client project some time ago I spoke with over 100 college athletic recruiters. Overwhelmingly they would tell you that Ranking Lists are how they plan their recruiting. If your school isn't gettting publicity, no one is paying attention to it.

Just to give strength to the Quality of 5A TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL...Something to consider.

•College BCS Poll note: Over 40% of the players on the rosters of the TOP 10 Ranked BCS Teams were Texas High School Football Players. When #12 Texas Christian University (TCU) Beats #8 Utah this Thursday, and puts TCU in the top 10 it will put the number over 50%. – 50% of the players on the top 10 teams are from Texas. That speaks to the quality of the players we are privileged to watch under the Friday Night Lights. I assume the recruiters know that as well.(OU 40% TX, OSU 60% TX, FL 10% TX)etc.
